Asha Bhosle Carved Her Own Identity Under Lata Mangeshkar’s Shadow: Sameer Anjaan Pays Tribute

Veteran lyricist Sameer Anjaan paid a heartfelt tribute to legendary singer Asha Bhosle, describing her passing as the end of an era in the world of music. He said her voice represented “a century of sound” and her contribution to Indian music remains unmatched.

Expressing his condolences, Sameer Anjaan said that Asha Bhosle was not just a singer but an institution whose achievements are nearly impossible to replicate. He noted that some artists are born once in a lifetime, and Asha Bhosle was one such rare talent who created history through her art.

Highlighting her versatility, he said Asha Bhosle explored almost every genre of music—from romantic songs and ghazals to disco and even modern styles—leaving a distinct mark in each. He also emphasized her remarkable linguistic range, as she sang in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, and Bhojpuri.

Recalling her journey, Sameer Anjaan spoke about the struggles she faced early in life, including financial hardships and personal challenges. Despite these obstacles, she rose to great heights and became an inspiration for generations of artists.

He further stated that young singers could achieve success by simply learning from Asha Bhosle’s songs, as her music is not just entertainment but also a source of learning and inspiration. Her dedication, emotion, and energy continue to guide aspiring artists.

Speaking about her relationship with her sister, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, Sameer Anjaan said that despite being in the shadow of such a towering figure, Asha Bhosle successfully carved out her own unique identity in the music industry. He added that the two sisters shared deep mutual respect and affection, despite occasional family differences.

Sharing personal memories, Sameer Anjaan recalled that even at an advanced age, Asha Bhosle remained energetic and passionate about her craft. He described her as a performer who approached the microphone like a warrior entering the battlefield, always giving her best.

He also remembered visiting her home once and hearing her practice (riyaz) from outside the door, noting that even at around 87 years of age, she continued her disciplined routine. For her, music was not just a profession but a form of devotion.

Asha Bhosle’s legacy continues to live on through her timeless songs, which will be cherished by music lovers for generations.
