New Delhi

The sacred festival of Chaitra Navratri is being celebrated across India with great devotion. During the nine-day festival, devotees worship the nine forms of Durga and offer various kinds of prasad. According to religious traditions and scriptures, jaggery is considered one of the most प्रिय offerings to the goddess.

It is believed that offering jaggery to all nine forms of the goddess, especially Kalaratri, the seventh form worshipped during Navratri, brings divine blessings and fulfills the wishes of devotees.

During Navratri, devotees offer jaggery in different forms such as jaggery sweets, jaggery halwa, jaggery laddoos, or plain jaggery. In many places, jaggery is mixed with ghee and offered as prasad. Religious scholars say that offering jaggery not only pleases the goddess but also brings prosperity, happiness, and good health to the household.

Apart from its religious significance, jaggery is also known for its numerous health benefits. In Ayurveda, jaggery is often described as being as beneficial as nectar and is considered one of the best natural sources of sweetness. Unlike refined sugar, jaggery is rich in iron, magnesium, potassium, vitamin B6, and antioxidants.

People observing Navratri fasts often experience fatigue, weakness, or headaches. Consuming jaggery provides instant energy, helps fight Anemia, and supports overall strength during fasting. It also improves digestion, relieves constipation, and helps cleanse the intestines.

Jaggery naturally generates warmth in the body, making it beneficial in winter. However, even during summer, moderate consumption can be helpful. When mixed with water or buttermilk, jaggery can help cool the body, prevent dehydration, and reduce acidity or stomach discomfort.

According to Ayurvedic principles, the natural minerals in jaggery help maintain the body’s temperature balance and keep the body energized even during hot weather.
