New York: Five-time world champions Brazil were held to a 1-1 draw by Morocco in an entertaining Group C clash at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Both teams delivered an impressive performance, with the match remaining competitive and exciting until the final whistle.
Morocco provided a stern challenge to Brazil from the outset, matching the South American giants with an aggressive and disciplined display. The breakthrough came in the 21st minute when Brahim Diaz split the Brazilian defense with a superb through ball.
The pass found Ismael Saibari, who raced into the penalty area and calmly beat Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker to give Morocco a 1-0 lead. The goal boosted Morocco’s confidence, and they continued to press forward with intent.
Brazil responded quickly and restored parity in the 32nd minute. Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes provided an excellent pass to Vinicius Junior, who showcased his trademark skill and composure.
Receiving the ball on the left flank, Vinicius cut inside before unleashing a powerful right-footed strike that found the back of the net, leveling the score at 1-1.
Before halftime, Brazil had an opportunity to take the lead, but Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou produced an excellent save to deny Lucas Paqueta.
Bounou continued his impressive performance in the second half, making several crucial saves to keep Morocco in the game. Both sides created scoring opportunities after the break, but neither team was able to find a decisive goal.
Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti introduced several substitutes in an attempt to change the outcome, but the tactical adjustments failed to produce a winner.
The draw also ended a remarkable streak for Brazil. It was the first time the national team failed to win a match in which Vinicius Junior scored. Prior to this game, Brazil had won all eight matches in which the Real Madrid star found the net.
Speaking after the match, Ancelotti admitted that Brazil struggled in the opening stages and found it difficult to impose themselves during the first half.
“We did not start the match well and faced several difficulties in the first half. Morocco is a strong team. We improved after the break, but I am not completely satisfied with the performance. Our focus is now on the next match,” the Brazilian coach said.
The result leaves Group C finely balanced, with both teams earning a valuable point as they continue their quest for a place in the knockout stages of the tournament.
