Fiber-Rich Meals Can Help Keep You Fit; Know How Much You Need Daily

New Delhi. Staying healthy is not simply about eating enough food; having a balanced and nutritious diet is equally important. Including fiber-rich foods in the daily diet is an important part of a healthy eating plan. Fiber not only supports a healthy digestive system but also helps keep you feeling full for longer.

An adult generally needs around 25 to 35 grams of fiber every day. Including fiber-rich foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and pulses in the diet can therefore be beneficial for overall health.

The National Health Mission, Uttar Pradesh, has also advised people to include fiber-rich foods in their daily diet. In a post on social media platform X, it said, “Including fiber-rich foods in your daily diet is an important part of a healthy eating plan. Fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains are good sources. Eating them regularly can help maintain better digestion and overall health.”

Fruits contain both soluble and insoluble fiber, which can help prevent constipation and support regular bowel movements. Eating fiber-rich fruits regularly can also keep the stomach feeling full for longer, reducing frequent hunger and helping with weight management.

Vegetables are an important part of a healthy meal because they support digestion. They can also help regulate blood sugar and cholesterol levels while keeping you satiated for longer. Fiber helps slow the absorption of glucose and can contribute to better blood sugar control, which may be particularly beneficial for people with diabetes.

Pulses are a good source of protein and contain both soluble and insoluble fiber. They can help prevent constipation and make bowel movements easier. Pulses generally have a low glycemic index, meaning they are less likely to cause a sudden rise in blood sugar levels. Along with fiber, they are also good sources of plant-based protein, iron, folate and magnesium.

Whole grains are another important component of a fiber-rich meal as they provide a wide range of nutrients. In addition to fiber, they contain B vitamins, iron, magnesium and antioxidants, which support the body’s nutritional needs and energy production.

Salads can also contribute fiber to the diet and support digestive health, potentially providing relief from problems such as constipation.
