Patna University Student Union Elections Postponed Until Further Orders

New Delhi

The student union elections at Patna University, which were scheduled to be held on February 28, have been postponed until further orders. The university administration cited recent incidents of indiscipline and violations of the election code of conduct within the campus as the reason for the decision.

Reasons for Postponement

According to an official statement issued by the university:

A group of students allegedly entered the campus of Patna Women’s College without permission and raised slogans in support of their candidates.

Violations of the election code of conduct were reported, including the use of printed banners and posters, deployment of expensive four-wheeler vehicles for campaigning, and starting campaign activities before the officially permitted period.

On January 21, students reportedly entered a classroom at Patna Science College and behaved inappropriately with a teacher and university officials.

In view of these developments, the university announced the immediate postponement of the 2025–26 student union elections.

Impact on Candidates and Student Groups

The decision has created significant buzz among student organizations and candidates, as preparations and campaigning were already in full swing.

Nomination figures for key posts are as follows:

President: 16 candidates

Vice President: 9 candidates

General Secretary: 9 candidates

Joint Secretary: 8 candidates

Treasurer: 9 candidates

54 nominations filed for 22 councillor (cabinet member) positions

Supporters of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) were reportedly involved in the unauthorized entry incident at the women’s college, which escalated tensions.

What’s Next?

The university has not yet announced a new date for the elections. Officials suggest the move is intended to send a strong message regarding discipline and adherence to electoral norms on campus.
