Narendra Modi to Visit Uttar Pradesh on Feb 22; To Flag Off Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat Train

New Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on February 22. At around 12:30 PM, he will flag off the Meerut Metro and the Namo Bharat train from Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station. The Prime Minister will also travel by metro from Shatabdi Nagar to Meerut South station.

Around 1 PM, he will inaugurate and dedicate to the nation multiple development projects worth approximately ₹12,930 crore in Meerut. He will also address a public gathering on the occasion.

In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding rail connectivity across Uttar Pradesh and the country. He said he would inaugurate India’s fastest Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat train, along with dedicating the Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor to the nation.

Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor

The Prime Minister will dedicate the 82-km-long Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor to the nation. He will also inaugurate the remaining sections of India’s first Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).

Key sections include:

5 km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi

21 km stretch between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh

With a top speed of 180 kmph, the Namo Bharat is India’s first regional rapid transit system. It will significantly improve connectivity between Delhi and major urban centers such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut.

Sarai Kale Khan station is strategically designed as a major multi-modal transport hub, connecting Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Veer Haqiqat Rai ISBT, and Ring Road. The other Namo Bharat stations to be inaugurated include Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram in Meerut.

Meerut Metro: A First-of-Its-Kind Integration

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Meerut Metro service between Meerut South and Modipuram. Notably, the metro will operate on the same infrastructure as the Namo Bharat system — a first-of-its-kind initiative in India.

Meerut Metro will be the fastest metro system in the country, with a maximum operational speed of around 120 kmph. The metro will cover the entire route, including all scheduled stops, in approximately 30 minutes.

This seamless integration of high-speed intercity travel and intra-city metro services is expected to set a benchmark for integrated urban and regional transportation in India. It will help reduce road congestion and significantly cut carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles.

These projects align with the Prime Minister’s vision of ensuring seamless, efficient, modern, and sustainable public transport systems aimed at transforming urban mobility and improving citizens’ quality of life.
