Jodhpur. A major road accident occurred on Sunday evening in the Matoda area of Phalodi subdivision in Jodhpur district, where a tourist bus rammed into a stationary trailer, resulting in the tragic death of 15 pilgrims. According to officials, 3 to 4 passengers were injured and were later shifted to Jodhpur after receiving first aid.
The victims were pilgrims from Surasagar in Jodhpur, returning from Kolayat Darshan in Bikaner, when their bus reached the Bharat Mala road stretch near Matoda. As the vehicle approached the area, it violently collided with a trailer parked on the roadside. The impact was so severe that the front portion of the bus was completely crushed, leading to multiple deaths on the spot.
Matoda Police Station Officer Amanaram confirmed the death of 18 individuals. Local residents, police teams and rescue personnel acted swiftly, sending the injured to nearby medical centres and then creating a green corridor to shift them to Jodhpur’s Mathuradas Mathur Hospital.
Upon receiving information about the tragedy, authorities immediately went into action. Surasagar MLA Devendra Joshi, who was in Jaipur at the time, left for Jodhpur without delay. Following instructions from Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, the MLA decided to return to oversee relief measures.
MLA Joshi also spoke to Dr. Vikas Rajpurohit, Superintendent of Mathuradas Mathur Hospital, over the phone and directed him to ensure quick and high-level medical treatment for all injured persons. He further appealed to the administration to remain alert and extend every possible assistance to the victims.
Expressing deep sorrow, the MLA said he stands with the affected families in this hour of grief and assured full support.
The accident has left the region in shock. Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collision, and the role of the trailer’s driver and operator is also being examined.
Officials stated that the process of identifying the deceased is underway, and families are being informed. The administration has urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours.
