Women T20 World Cup : Deepti Sharma Becomes Leading Wicket-Taker in Women T20 Internationals

Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma achieved a historic milestone during India’s emphatic 64-run victory over Pakistan in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Deepti delivered a match-winning performance, claiming 5 wickets for just 10 runs in her four-over spell, playing a crucial role in bowling Pakistan out for 106 while defending India’s total of 170/6.

With the dismissal of Pakistan batter Nashra Sandhu, Deepti became the highest wicket-taker in Women’s T20 International cricket history. She now has 166 wickets in 145 T20I matches, surpassing Thailand’s Thipatcha Putthawong, who had previously held the record with 165 wickets from 105 matches.

Deepti also broke India’s previous Women’s T20 World Cup bowling record, surpassing Renuka Singh Thakur, who had registered figures of 5/15 against England in 2023.

Additionally, Deepti became only the second bowler in women’s international cricket to reach the landmark of 350 international wickets. Following her five-wicket haul against Pakistan, her tally stands at 354 international wickets, just one behind Indian pace legend Jhulan Goswami, who leads the chart with 355 wickets.

India Dominate Pakistan

Earlier, India posted 170/6 in 20 overs after impressive batting performances from:

Smriti Mandhana – 68 runs off 44 balls
Harmanpreet Kaur – 36 runs
Richa Ghosh – 34 runs off 17 balls

Chasing 171, Pakistan were bowled out for 106 in 17 overs as India’s bowlers dominated throughout the innings.

The 64-run victory is India’s fifth-largest win by margin of runs in Women’s T20 World Cup history and provides the team with a perfect start to its 2026 campaign.
