Nepal Register First-Ever T20 World Cup Win, Beat Scotland by 7 Wickets

 Nepal concluded their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a convincing seven-wicket victory over Scotland on Tuesday. Although both teams were already out of the title race, Nepal ended the tournament on a high by securing their first-ever win in T20 World Cup history.

The match was played at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

After losing the toss, Scotland were put in to bat first and posted 170 for 7 in their 20 overs. Openers George Munsey and Michael Jones provided a solid start, adding 80 runs in the first 10 overs.

Munsey scored 27 runs off 29 balls, hitting four boundaries. After his dismissal, Jones continued the momentum and built a 52-run partnership with Brandon McMullen for the second wicket. Jones played a brilliant knock of 71 runs off 45 balls, smashing eight fours and three sixes. McMullen contributed 25 runs, while Mark Watt added 10 runs.

For Nepal, Sompal Kami was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets. Nandan Yadav took two wickets, while Rohit Paudel and Kushal Bhurtel picked up one wicket each.

In response, Nepal successfully chased down the target in 19.2 overs. Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh gave the team a steady start, putting together a 74-run partnership in 9.1 overs. Bhurtel scored 43 runs off 35 balls, including four sixes and one four, while Aasif contributed 33 runs off 27 balls with two sixes.

Nepal were 98 for 3 at one stage, but Gulshan Jha and Dipendra Singh Airee turned the match around with an unbeaten 73-run partnership for the fourth wicket in just 36 balls. Airee smashed an unbeaten 50 off 23 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes, while Jha remained not out on 24 off 17 balls.

For Scotland, Michael Leask took all three wickets.

With this victory, Nepal finally ended their winless run in the T20 World Cup and finished their campaign on a positive note.
